sometimes the title of a similar image names a whole exhibition – but “what is?” a simple title for the image? & why are most contemporary paintings signed “without title”? – are we afraid to spell out what we see, to baptise our vision? or do we just want to keep the suspense of our own free & instinctive signs unsealed?

zur Ausstellung ANDREAS ROSENEDER & ADOLF TUMA mit kulinarischer Präsentation von BERNIE RIEDER zum Opening am 5. April 2012, 19.00 Uhr im Cafe EBINGER, Eisenstadt Ausstellungsdauer bis 30. April
Künstler und Koch – beide müssen sich Lorbeeren oder Hauben schwer erarbeiten, um bestehen zu können: die Konkurrenz ist groß und mit der rasanten Verbreitung ihrer Arbeit durch die Medien wird ihr Werk immer schneller zum „dejá vu et dejá mangé“. Gustav Ebinger hat nach der Karriere auf der Medienleiter das Handtuch geschmissen, es mit dem Serviertuch getauscht und das alte „Schloßcafe“, das schon sein Urgroßvater zu Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts führte, zum „Ebinger“ gemodelt. Mit Bernie Rieder hat er für die Küche – „gute Küche hat schon immer ein gutes Kaffeehaus ausgemacht“ – einen Koch gefunden, der bereits mit 21 Jahren zum jüngsten Haubenkoch Österreichs gekürt wurde. In diesen wilden Jahren malte Rieder sogar nebenbei und kreirte mit dem Maler und leidenschaftlichen Koch Andreas Roseneder ein sechsgängiges Menü in der Küche für dessen Vernissagengäste – und so nebenbei wurden die Wände bemalt… Parallelen ergaben sich auch danach, Andreas Roseneder gründete mit dem Bildhauer Rudolf Pinter „Der Turm“ im Flugsicherungsturm am Flugplatz Trausdorf zur Realisierung künstlerischer Aktivitäten, Bernie Rieder führte das Restaurant „Das Turm“ im obersten Geschoß eines der Twintowers in Wien / Favoriten zu einem Treffpunkt der Gourmets. Ein solcher Liebhaber feinen Essens wie Koch ist auch der Künstler Adolf Tuma. Er hat seine Lehre als Lithograf in der Briefmarkenabteilung der Österreichischen Staatsdruckerei gemacht und arbeitet noch heute dort im Wertzeichenatelier. Seine Auftraggeber waren aber auch schon die Post Liechtensteins, Luxemburgs, Kuwaits und San Marinos, der Tierpark Schönbrunn & der Nationalpark Donauauen bis hin zur Österreichischen Nationalbank. – Seine Hände haben die Portraits von Rosa Mayreder und Karl Landsteiner der letzten Fünfhunderter- und Tausender-Schillingscheine gezeichnet. Und bisher sind über 100 Briefmarken mit Adolf Tumas Ideen bestückt. „Da stecken viele Arbeitsstunden in so einer Marke drin.” Erst kürzlich erhielt er zum zweiten Mal die „Yehudi Menuhin Trophy“ für die schönste Musikbriefmarke der Welt. Kennengelernt haben sich die Künstler Adolf „Hugo“ Tuma und Andreas Roseneder vor Jahren auf der Insel Zakynthos, wo Roseneder an der Sommerakademie Griechenland Acrylmalkurse leitet. Trotz unterschiedlicher künstlerischer Ambitionen und deren verschiedener technischer Umsetzung entstand eine Freundschaft, die sie noch heute verbindet.

Artist and cook – both have to work hard for laurels or hoods, in order to exist: the competition is tough and with the rapid dissemination of their work through the media, their work mutates much more quickly to a “déjà vu et déjà mangé.” After a media career, Gustav Ebinger has thrown in the legendary towel, replaced it with a waiter cloth and was able to remodel the old “Schloßcafe”, which his great-grandfather already led at the beginning of last century, into the “Ebinger”. With Bernie Rieder he has for the kitchen – “good cooking has always made out a good café” – found a cook, who was already crowned at age 21 to become the youngest chef in Austria. In those wild years Rieder even painted casually and created together with the painter and passionate chef Andreas Roseneder a six-course meal in the kitchen for his vernissage guests – and besides the walls got painted. … more parallels followed, Andreas Roseneder founded together with the sculptor Rudolf Pinter “Der Turm” (tower) in the air traffic control tower at Trausdorf airport for the realization of artistic activities, Bernie Rieder led “Das Turm”-restaurant on the top floor of one of the Twin Towers in Vienna / Favoriten to a meeting place for gourmets. Such a lover of fine food just as well as cooking, is also the artist Adolf Tuma. He did his apprenticeship as a lithographer in the stamps department of the Austrian State Printshop and still works there in the stamps studio. His clients even included the postal administration of Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Kuwait, San Marino, the Schönbrunn Zoo and the National Park Donau Auen as well as the Austrian National Bank. His hands have portrayed Rosa Mayreder and Karl Landsteiner on the last five-hundred- and thousand-schilling notes. And so far, more than 100 stamps show Adolf Tuma’s ideas. “So many working hours flow into such a stamp.” Just recently he was awarded for the second time the “Yehudi Menuhin Trophy” for best musical stamp in the world. The artists Adolf “Hugo” Tuma and Andreas Roseneder met years ago on the island of Zakynthos, where Roseneder heads at the Sommerakademie Griechenland, acrylic painting classes. Despite differences in their artistic ambitions and different technical implementation, a friendship developed that unites them until today.

a yearning intention since years & now executed – our visit to the so-called “Aukönig” (“Floodplane´s King”), an old hybrid black poplar on the banks of river Danube – together with my leader, friend & artist Adolf Tuma, who has prepared this year 2011 an animated iron sculpture of the tree myth Aukönig for an ordinary traffic island on the slip road from National Road into village Haslau, Lower Austria

our judgement: the king is dying, looses leafage, branches & even bark
with the tree more than a century´s bark-carvings are going
but there´s young life beneath his trunk, up the roots:

the obvious model for:
Adolf “Hugo” Tuma with his artwork “monument” – or even “memorial”? – definitely no “tombstone”: “the golden drop in the middle is the symbol for a new seed of Floodplane´s King”, he tells. – a pity the sculpture rests at the contractor´s yard of the village Haslau next a garbage container: “the traffic island is prepared for installing but administrative channels seem choked up”. – “I am romanticist”, he had said on the way to the banks of river Danube. – I sympathize.
